Jimmy Cohn Productions - Jerry would love this band

Posted by: jimmy in Untagged  on

I love this band and Jerry would too...i saw that bumper sticker at the Shakedown in Chicago last weekend...I've seen 18 shows since the band formed in september of 2009...i am so grateful bobby and phil put this band together. i love the scene, the music...this is it!!  i know there are those who say, without Jerry, its not the same and i agree, it is not , it is different ..and it is sweet.  my hats off to john, jeff and joe..i am a want to be drummer, and i think joe russo is one of the great drummers i have seen in over 40 years of concert going.

the backup singing of jeff and sunshine adds so much to the band as zoe and sunshine did in early furthur history...i miss jay lane too ...his energy was a show in itself.

jeff , joe and john....nicely done guys...john is doing a great job, and must be leaving his dream..for years the "jerry" guy in the foremost grateful dead cover band, dark star orchestra, (DSO)...invited to play in this lineup....i did speak with him at the furthur fest in may and got the feeling he is having a real good time.

i saw 2 oakland shows, sept 09, the first 2, then the 2 new years shows in sf, on to chicago in march, sf for phils 70th , march 12 in sf, furthur fest, then santa barbara, the greek  , vegas , then to red rocks for 2 , before hitting the 2 chicago shows last week..

i'm missing MSG tonite, tomorrow and new years this year....i just hope this thing goes on for  a while , it looks as though everybody is enjoying this run...thank you bobby and phil.

JimmyCohnProductions - Furthur Tour 2010

Posted by: jimmy in myblog on

just back from Red Rocks..what a great week..i've seen Furthur now 14 shows...

was in oakland for 2 of the first 3 shows..new years in SF...phils birthday in SF, Chicago for 2 hot shows, furthur fest in angels camp and 5 shows last week, santa barbara, LA, vegas, and 2 of the 3 red rocks shows...i missed friday to ride in the homecoming parade with my daughter emma

i wouldn't have missed that for the world.... on to Furthur....the music lives..and it lives real good.. bobby and phil seem to be enjoying this gig..i have been going to shows since 1970 and for this music lover, deadhead, joe , jeff and john are all stars. being a want to be drummer, i am mesmerized by joe....jeff is incredible and john is "close your eyes" sounds like .....in his own right, i love that john is living the dream ..and appears to be so humble.. i had the opportunity to chat with john at furthur fest for a moment..i am so grateful the guys are out there keeping the music alive and well...can't wait for chicago in november..

Jimmy Cohn Productions - 2010 and Furthur

Posted by: jimmy in Untagged  on

it's been a while since i updated this blog. i have been keeping my clients and friends up to date on facebook. what a year 2010 is beginning to look like for us rockers.

since the Furthur New Years shows which were terrific, i was in Chicago at Budy Guy's club to introduce my friends Lubriphonic. these guys are getting some traction with their rockin blues sound. the horns remind of the tower of power horns and the pipes of Giles Corey will get your juices flowing. i had the honor of bringing Lube to the satge as Buddy's opener on January 27, as Buddy closed out his annual January run at his club.

february was a little quiet, though i did check out my friend Kevin O'day, former Anders Osborne drummer as he led his own band on monday nights at the mint on pico in LA.  that has since been cancelled but look for kevin to sit in during the new orleans jazz fest in april. he should be sitting in with anders, maybe the mardi gras indians...you never know where he might show up.

on into march i headed to chicago for the Furthur shows at the great Chicago Auditorium. the show march 3, will be talked about for many years by deadheads. the set list was amazing. a china rider, a scarlet fire among others..i am not one of those that can rattle off the complete song list, but you can find it at furthur.net. the shows are avaialble on itunes or at nugs.net..

and lastly for this update, march 12, the phil lesh 70th birthday bash back at the bill graham civic auditorium where we were for the new years shows.  billed as a benefit for haiti relief, Furthur was joined by chris robinson of the black crowes, jackie greene, steve molitz of particle and john molo.  the 3 set show featured an opening acoustic set, followed by 2 long sets featuring alot of vocals with robinson and jackie.  the evening  also included a parade of 3 floats and a rendition of happy birthday sung by all to phil. an amazing man, at 70 years old, today march 15, a liver transplabnt survivor , he carries that message each night. i am so proud to be a deadhead , a wharf rat, a fan of this great band that is currently being featured at the new york city historical society.

the grateful dead archives on display through early july....check out what this band and their fans , the impact the deadhead community has had on society.

off to wanee in mid april for the allman brothers and the lineup they have put together which includes bob weir , johnny winter, the meters , parliament, derek trucks, gov't mule, particle, ivan nevilles dumpstaphunk..and many many more. until then peace and love.

Jimmy Cohn Productions - Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton

Posted by: jimmy in Untagged  on

wednesday , january 27th, i had the honor of introducing hot funk, blues band, lubriphonic at buddy guys's club legends in chicago. lubriphonic was opening for buddy as the blues legend was closing out his annual january run at the downtown chicago club.

the 20 year old venue will be moving to larger quarters in the next few months, the club has seen the likes of eric clapton and the rolling stones grace the stage. buddy guy a most well respected man and great friend to many a axemen, will perform at eric clapton's crossroads festival in the chicago suburbs on june 26 along with many other invited guests. look for EC to show at the new legends during his stay in the windy city..

that info came from buddy's mouth..

Jimmy Cohn Productions - Furthur New Years Shows

Posted by: jimmy in Untagged  on

just returned from 2 nights with Furthur. the shows were terrific. i am not one that attends the shows as a critic. i am so grateful the guys are out making the music. this lineup is so energized.

i am a warren haynes fan, but really like john's fit in the band. what a trip it must be for john to be playing with bobby and phil.

i love joe and jay's energy on drums and percussion, the keys of jeff and appreciate the 2 ladies doing the backing vocals.

i heard most of my favorites the last 2 nights and enjoyed hanging in line with all the deadheads both days. it was probably a split of those inline vying for a balcony seat and those that were hoping for a position on the rail. seemed most of us 50+ were hoping for the spots upstairs, 20 years ago we'd have wanted the rails.

i did not like the roped off sections of the balcony , reserved for whoever. one section was completely empty..so what was that about? the music was outstanding, i found myself smiling ear to ear for 2 nights. i look forward to the winter tour. i will make chicago shows and waiting to see when the boys will make LA .

jimmy Cohn Productions - dinner with U2

Posted by: jimmy in Untagged  on

watching the U2 show on youtube, reminds me of a night in the mid 80's , dining at the great Gene and Georgetti's in Chicago. My brother , myself and a few other friends, eating at this terrrific Chicago eatery, the band , on their first US tour came into the dining room. we went over to their table and were obliged with autographs.

i have never been a big fan of the band, but always have respected not only their music but all the stands they have taken in the name of peace and love. i didn't consider going to the rose bowl tonite but truly am enjoying watching the show on youtube and enjoying a beautiful cuban cigar in the comfort of my backyard.

its a great show, thanks U2 for putting the first ever live show on youtube. the stream, is great, sound etc... technologically U2 is leading the way , using the internet to carry their message of hope to the world. cd and dvd replication, packaging by jimmy cohn productions
